Single Review: Show Us Your Colours – Amy Scott-Samuel – 23 July 2026

Words: RBY, Photos: RBY/Band Media

A direct and straight track that plays up Amy’s strong voice in an initially sparse arrangement and then builds up gently to a veritable sunburst of melody. The song has a gentility to it with some deeply personal lyrics and a fresh sounding Indy catchiness added to its innate folkiness. A song that grows on listening more and its subtlety ensures it will be one to replay.

Amy Scott-Samuel is known as the vocalist/main force behind folky indie band She’s in The Trees and this marks her debut as a soloist. We asked Amy what was different about her solo endeavour and Amy summed it up with ‘When I wrote The Trees songs for our first album, it often felt like I was channeling the energy and experiences of a range of different characters…much like the characters you read about in books or see in films. While they may be an extension of me on some level, they are not exactly me…my solo project is definitely more of a personal approach. These songs are intimate stories, sometimes based on lived experience, sometimes fuelled by daydreams or imaginings’.

Amy added ‘Go Gently is a collection of songs grounded in a philosophy of self care, openness and emotional honesty. It is a project about courage, tenderness and the power of connection.’

The single was release yesterday and is available on all the main streaming platforms etc (see links below).

Amy is appearing live on Thursday 23 July at Hobo Kiosk in the Baltic Area Liverpool and on Friday July 24 at Cafe Indigo in Birkenhead.
