Words by Johnny Images from band media
Back in February of this year, I had the pleasure of reviewing an album by a band I had not seen or heard before, as usual, it is always a pleasure to be introduced to new bands, music and mindsets. Lilith’s Army have reached out again; to let you all know about the imminent release of the their latest single, and video to go with it.

Lilith’s Army is a 3-piece outfit hailing from Northampton formed in 2004 when Sylvie was studying at Uni, there have a been a few lineup changes over ten years, with the current one in place since 2022. Previous albums released in 2006 a self-titled project and Drain Me in 2008. The UK music press has described them as being a combination of English post punk influences with heavy rock drumming with a grunge style guitar. After the release of 1st 2 albums, the band received numerous excellent reviews from around Europe and USA. Having played a number of festivals, including Glastonbury, they released a 3rd album Disturbed. After a prolonged break, they reformed with the current line up in 2022. This album Doll will be released on Criminal Records on 28th March this year, with an official launch party/gig at The Water Rats in London.
The following is the press release for the new single: –
“Liliths Army have announced a forthcoming single to promote their album Doll via West London independent label Criminal Records. Hailing from Northampton, this power trio blends the best of lo-fi punk, grunge, and metal, with music “for fans of Nirvana, L7, Lush, Vampyre Heart, Elastic and Space Parasites”. Their single “Cursed” is due for release on October 24th. The announcement is accompanied by a pre-order link, offering fans exclusive access to a radio mix of the track. This will be followed by the release of the music video on October 31st.”
More often than not, when I write a review, I use my own interpretation of the lyrics, without any input or explanation from the writer. This is so I can give my own personal opinion of what a song is about, and the way the lyrics and music affect me personally. On this occasion I will give both, a description from the lyricist and also my own, which I gave when I reviewed the whole album a few months ago. No doubt, those of you who listen in depth to lyrics of this song, or any other track for that matter, will interpret it in your own way, and that is one of the joys of music, it’s how it makes us feel individually.

In the words of Sylvia…………
“The central theme of the song is the unease of inner darkness which we sought to express visually in the music video drawing upon our interest in old-school horror movies. Filmed at an abandoned armoury in Northamptonshire, we invite the audience to glimpse into the wrought emotions of psychological unease through film and music”
And for my own description………….
“What appears to be a personal record of low self-esteem, finally taking its toll, surrounded by the stresses of life, becoming trapped in your mind, unable to escape the inevitable break down of the human psyche. The final realisation that the bad shit in our self-esteem life has finally succeeded, leading to a welcome “self-destruction”.”
Bearing in mind, I had not seen the video at the time I wrote that review, id like to think I was there or thereabouts. Have a listen, and make your own minds up. Its always good to get other’s perspective.

So, there ya have it. Get the album, give it a good go and listen to what is being said. If ya can make the gig, you will be in for a cracker of a night, but I suggest getting tickets soon as it is a limited affair and will sell fast, if not already. Please check out links for the band below.
