Take yourself back to America in the 50’s. You’re sat at a typical American Diner, stuffing your face with a cheeseburger, slurping on a milk shake, having just met up with the guys. On the TV, the local baseball team are playing, whilst your parents are at home watching The Munsters or listening to the latest rock n roll classic. Is the scene set?? Yes, then indulge me as I review the latest offering from undoubtedly, one of the finest bands to come out of Manchester in recent times, Thee Windom Earles.

This band have played The Outpost a few times in the last couple of years and they blew the roof of the place every time. The live performance is incredible, think of what the bastard child of The Mummies and Link Wray would sound like, then up the ante somewhat and you are still not close to the wall of surfed up, fuzzed up, monster-mashed wall of goodness that these guys deliver with unrelenting gusto. So like an excited child with a new toy, I unwrap the film from their cd and chuck it in the player.

Straight their trade mark sound hits you with the opening instrumental track which they have used to open up their live set. No lyrics are needed, the music is enough to drag you back to when America was awash with jocks walking around with High School jackets, other groups of lads with leather jackets. Think of Rydell High School. The theme continues throughout the whole album with most band members taking on the role of lead singer as well as playing their instruments. I think I’m right in saying that only the drummer doesn’t take on lead vocal duties. As we work our way through the album, entitled Trashcan Sunrise, there are a few standouts for me. One being Bubblegum where somehow, they managed to create a sound of bubbles popping, genius. Another and my personal fave and illustrates one of the best guitar intros is Savage Skulls. I might rip it off but don’t tell them . This is a great CD from a great band and you need to have it in your collection. Go buy it……
