Gig Review: Henry Priestman and Friends 70th Birthday Bash at Future Yard Birkenhead – Saturday 17 May 2025.

Words and Photos: Steve Watson

A quick 1/2 an hour train journey to Birkenhead to Henry Priestman and Friends celebrate his 70th birthday.

The set opened up with ‘Old’ and soon stopped as Henry hadn’t plugged in his guitar! Live music or getting old? During the evening they were joined on stage by many guests too many to name but contributed to different and the last song had everybody on stage at the same time. The set consisted of various tracks by TheĀ  Christians – Born Again – Words which told us he had a law suit against him for stealing an Irish bands song. Ideal World, Suffice To Say from The Yachts which was written for his girlfriend at the time who is now his wife. A Fool like you and a few more from the new The Yachts album which is now in the charts. There were a few songs from Henry and Les Glovers back catalogue. The stand out track for me was ‘He ain’t good enough” how many parents have said that about their daughter/sons new girlfriends/ boyfriends.
